Who is Jesus?
Jesus Christ is the central figure and founder of Christianity. He is referred to by many titles, but Christians focus on His role as God’s Son and Savior of the world. Centuries before His birth, prophets spoke of His arrival. He healed the sick, raised the dead, walked on water, and taught spellbound crowds.
His greatest claim was that He was God. The Gospel writers (Matthew, Mark, and Luke) supported this claim by highlighting facts about His life, such as His virgin birth and His healing miracles.
Other historical sources support these claims as well, including the Roman historians Tacitus and Suetonius and the Jewish writer Josephus. These sources corroborate more than 50 details about Jesus of Nazareth, including His death and resurrection. Jesus is both God and man, one person with two distinct roles.
What is the purpose of life?
Religions offer various interpretations of the purpose of life. For example, Mormons believe that humans are God’s spirit children, and he has provided them with a mortal body as a test of their faith and strength. They are asked to overcome challenges, hardships, and temptations to gain wisdom and learn to choose good over evil. The goal is to progress and become more like Jesus. Judaism has a similar concept of the purpose of life, focusing on Tikkun Olam, or ‘repairing the world’.
The purpose of life can also be seen in nature and in human relationships. The classic memento mori – remember that you will die – is an expression of this idea. Pragmatic philosophers suggest that finding a practical, useful understanding of the meaning of life is more important than searching for an abstract truth about it.
How do we know we are saved?
There are a few primary ways we know we are saved: 1. We are baptized in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. 2. We have the witness of the Holy Spirit in our hearts that we are His children, causing us to cry out “Abba! Father!” 3. We have a lifestyle of obedience to God and a love for other believers. 4. We are free from sin’s power because of what Jesus did on the cross for our sins.
If you have any doubts about your salvation, it is always a good idea to talk with a trusted pastor or Christian friend. Remember, though, that you cannot “feel” your way into your beliefs; rather, faith is based on our understanding of what Christ has done for us.
How do we live a life of faith?
A life of faith is transformative, exciting, and resilient. It changes your perspective, enables you to see the world through new eyes, and gives you confidence and hope. Faith impacts your spirit, your emotions, and even your relationships.
To live by faith means that you are trusting God with your life. Living by faith means that you believe that He is who He says He is, and that He will do what He promises to do. It also means that you are actively engaged with Him by reading His Word and speaking it out loud. And it means that you are extending His grace to others by being kind and respectful. It is a daily act of faith. And it is the only way to truly live a life of faith.
